Browser permissions for devices (camera and microphone)

Configure settings

There are several ways (all available both in Windows and macOS) of managing Camera and Microphone permissions on a browser:

  1. Using Prompts:
    1. Open browser (Chrome / Firefox / Opera / Edge / Safari)
    2. Go to https://test.mashme.io/
    3. When prompted, choose   "Allow"
      • Note that prompts will not show if there are specific previous settings on that browser
      • To change those user settings, go to “change devices permissions” (below) or reset them to the default values at "clear browsing data / advanced / site settings" (Clear Chrome browsing data)
  2. Changing devices permissions for camera & microphone  (see details in table below)
  3. Clicking on the Padlock icon on the left side of the address bar  (see details in table below)

Chrome
  1. Open Chrome browser
  2. At the top right, click  More  >  Settings
  3. Under  Privacy and Security, click  Site settings
  4. Choose  Camera / Microphone
  5. Turn on or off "Ask before accessing"
You can also copy and paste the following URLs on the address bar:
  • chrome://settings/content/camera
  • chrome://settings/content/microphone

Firefox
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox browser 
  2. At the top right, click:
    1. Menu  >  Options  (Windows)
    2. Menu  >  Preferences  (Mac)
  3. Under  Privacy & Security, scroll down to the  Permissions  section
  4. Click  Settings  button for Camera / Microphone
  5. Enter the website URL in the Search field and press  Enter
  6. The website will display in the list
  7. Click on  Save Changes

Opera
  1. Open Opera browser 
  2. Go to  Settings  >  Advanced
    1. Windows: click the Opera icon (top-left corner in browser)  >  Settings
    2. Mac: click Opera in the toolbar (top-left in screen)  >  Preferences
  3. Under  Privacy and security, click  Site Settings
  4. Click  Camera / Microphone
  5. Turn on or off "Ask before accessing"

You can also copy and paste the following URLs on the address bar:

  • opera://settings/content/camera
  • opera://settings/content/microphone

Edge
  1. Open Microsoft Edge browser 
  2. At top right, click  Settings & more  >  Settings
  3. Under  Site Permissions, click  Camera / Microphone
  4. Use the drop-down menu and select the default device
  5. Turn on or off "Ask before accessing"

  • edge://settings/content/camera
  • edge://settings/content/microphone

Safari
  1. Open Safari browser
  2. At the top left, click  Safari  >  Preferences
  3. Under  Websites, choose  Camera / Microphone
  4. On the website on the right, choose an option from the pop-up menu:
  • Ask: The site must ask if it can use the cam/mic
  • Deny: The site can’t use your cam/mic
  • Allow: The site can always use your cam/mic

Note that Opera and Edge are not officially supported browsers


Further settings

  • Check the Privacy Settings in your computer:
    • If you are running Windows 10 OS or later:
      • Go to:   Start   >   Settings   >   Privacy  or  Privacy & Security    >   Camera / Microphone
      • Check that the Camera/Microphone have access allowed
    • If you are running macOS 10.14.x (Mojave) or later:
      • Go to:   System Preferences   >   Security and Privacy   >   Privacy tab
      • Check that the Camera/Microphone/ScreenRecording are allowed in the desired Browser
    • For complete information, check:
  • If you're using a work/school device:
    • Your network administrator may have set camera/microphone settings for you.
    • In that case, you won't be able to change them as explained before.
