Translator Role

▪ Translator mutes/unmutes mic

  • While translator mutes the mic in the app, loses connection or leaves room during session:

    • On the video wall in room, the message “Simultaneous translation not available” will appear

    • For the participant/assistant in the original language: the language switch disappears

    • For the participant/assistant in the translated language:

      • he is sent to the original language and the language switch disappears

      • he receives the message “Translation is disabled. You are listening to the original language”

  • When translator unmutes mic or comes back to room (from reconnect or logs back in:

    • On the video wall in room, the message “Simultaneous translation not available” will disappear

    • For the participant/assistant in the original language: the language switch appears again

    • For the participant/assistant in the translated language:

      • he is sent back to the translated language and the language switch appears again

      • the message “Translation is disabled...” disappears

  • If translator mutes the mic in their headphones, to the students and to the room it looks as if he/she was connected & unmuted -  (useful if he needs to cough, for example)

▪ Original language vs Translated - how to use them

  • Students speak & hear in the channel they have selected:

    • The system does not detect the language you are actually speaking, but the channel in which you are following the session

    • If you are in one channel, you should not speak in the other one!

  • Presenter in room must always speak the original language:

    • If there is translation in room -> when a student speaks in the 2nd language, the translator will be heard in room in the 1st language (and not the student)

    • If there is no translation in room -> when a student speaks in the 2nd language, the presenter will hear him in the 2nd language, but must be careful and answer back in the 1st language!

  • Translation in Room: to know if you need it, answer this question:

    • Does the Presenter in Room feel comfortable in both languages?

      • No        choose Translation in Room

      • Yes        no need for Translation in Room
